Bailey Hanna Sutherland BComm ’20

Quispamsis, New Brunswick
October 2020

Bailey Sutherland just graduated with her Bachelor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s. “I had such an amazing experience. The professors are so attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful, the class sizes are small, the campus is a perfect size, and everyone is so friendly.” During her undergrad, Bailey was part of the Saint Mary’s Habitat for Humanity Society for three years, volunteering at local build sites in greater Halifax as well as in the southern United States. She also volunteered extensively at the campus Women’s Centre, at local women’s shelter Adsum House, and at Out of the Cold homeless shelter.

Bailey worked on the front lines of COVID-19 from March to July at an emergency pop-up homeless shelter for men in Halifax, helping keep this vulnerable population healthy. Even though the pandemic dramatically changed her student experience, she’s excited to take on the challenge of her MBA. After she completes her MBA, Bailey plans to pursue a law degree in England.

“It is no exaggeration to say that this scholarship will change my life,” she says. “Studying to get my MBA and come out of it with no debt is not something many people can say — especially during the current global climate, where many people’s financial situations were severely impacted by COVID-19. I have so much gratitude...”
