This annual festival celebrates writing, held in a small community in Cape Breton.

There are several featured artists affiliated with Saint Mary’s participating in this event.

  • Dr. Alexander MacLeod, Professor of English Literature and Atlantic Canada Studies at SMU 

  • Sylvia D. Hamilton, a SMU honorary degree holder  

  • Jon Tattrie, EPD course Facilitator at SMU 

Meet SMU alum Francesca Ekwuyasi MA'16 at Cabot Trail Writers Festival 2021! Francesca is one of the featured artists of this festival, who published her debut novel, Butter Honey Pig Bread. Her novel was listed on the 2020 Giller Prize, CBC's 2021 Canada Reads competition, a 2021 Lambda Literary Award, the 2021 Governor General's Award, and the 2021 Amazon Canada First Novel Award.

Waive the Application Fee for Future Students

It's that time of year where many high school students and young adults are looking to the future and making a decision on where to continue their education. We hope that you invite those in your lives looking to pursue post-secondary education to apply to Saint Mary's. 

We're excited to share an offer code to waive the $40 application fee for first-year undergrad students for the 2021-2022 academic year!
