Sobey National Innovator Scholarships (Sobey Innovators) for Bachelor of Commerce Students

Description: We are pleased to offer 10 renewable entrance awards valued at $50,000 over 4 years awarded annually. These scholarships will be presented to exceptional students from across Canada in recognition of their accomplishments, and as encouragement and support for their success in the Sobey School of Business.

This scholarship is renewable if the student recipient achieves the university academic requirement for scholarship renewal as it may change from time to time.

Criteria:

  • Must be accepted into the Bachelor of Commerce program (September intake), entering first year as a full-time student
  • Must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents recently graduated from high school.
  • Must have (normally) a minimum of 90% average, or an IB Diploma score of 36, out of high school and demonstrate leadership in extra-curricular activities.
  • Scholarship is not deferrable

Faculty / Discipline: Sobey School of Business

Value: The initial scholarship in academic year 1 is $20,000. The renewal value in academic years 2-4 is $10,000 per year. The total value of the scholarship over four years is $50,000.

Sobey MBA Scolarships (Sobey MBA Scholars)

Application Required: Yes, please visit the Sobey MBA Scholarships page.

Description: We are pleased to offer five entrance awards, valued at $30,000 each, annually starting in September 2020. These scholarships will be presented to exceptional students from across Canada in recognition of their accomplishments, and as encouragement and support for their success in the Sobey School of Business.

Criteria:

  • Canadian citizens or permanent residents entering the MBA program in the Sobey School of Business as full-time students.
  • Demonstrate excellent academic achievement, normally a GPA of 3.5 out of 4.3 or higher, and/or a GMAT score of 650 or higher.
  • Demonstrate interest or involvement in such areas as responsible leadership, entrepreneurial mindset, or innovative thinking.
  • Must be commencing studies in the year the scholarship is awarded. Candidates who have already begun their studies are not eligible.
  • Candidates cannot defer their award.

Sobeys Diversity Excellence Awards 

Application Required: Yes, using the Named Entrance Award application form

DescriptionWe are excited to offer 4 new awards of $6,000 each distributed annually. Two awards will be presented to students who self-identify as Indigenous persons, which would include First Nations Status and non-Status, Metis and Inuit and two awards will be awarded to students who self-identify of African Nova Scotian ancestry or Black /African descent. 

These awards are renewable for up to five additional years, provided that the student remains registered as a student.  

Sobeys Award for Indigenous Students 

Two awards of $6,000 distributed annually will be presented to students who self-identify as Indigenous persons, which would include First Nations Status and non-Status, Metis and Inuit. Preference for the awards will be given to students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student in the Sobey School of Business and demonstrates financial need.  

If there are no eligible Sobey School of Business students, the awards can be given to full-time or part-time Indigenous students enrolled in a faculty other than the Sobey School of Business. Should a Sobey School of Business award recipient transfer to a different faculty, the award will transfer with them if they maintain other eligibility criteria.  

These awards are renewable for up to five additional years, provided that the student remains registered as a student. Should the recipient take a break in their academic study, the award will be held for a maximum period of one year to enable them to return and regain the award.

Preference for the awards will be given to students who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, enrolled as a full-time or part-time undergraduate student in the Sobey School of Business and demonstrates financial need.

Sobeys Leadership Awards 

Application Required: Yes, using the Named Entrance Award application form

Criteria / Description: Five new renewable awards of $4,000 each are distributed annually. If all returning students meet the award criteria, this could result in 20 awards of $4000, or $80,000, distributed in a single year. These awards recognize community service, leadership, academic achievement, and financial need, and are given to full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Sobey School of Business who demonstrate community service leadership, financial need, and satisfactory academic achievement.

Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies 

Application Required: Yes, please refer to the application process on the Frank H. Sobey Awards website.

Description: The Frank H. Sobey Awards for Excellence in Business Studies is a scholarship program administered by The Sobey Foundation in which Saint Mary's University has the opportunity to endorse one applicant from the Sobey School of Business each year. This scholarship is open to all business students in Atlantic Canada. 

The Sobey School of Business is proud to have had 26 of their students claim these prizes since 1989.
