The SMU Community Bulletin is a bi-weekly update of everything you need to know about what’s going on at SMU right now, including announcements, news highlights, upcoming events and more. SMU students are automatically subscribed to this newsletter with their SMU email address.

Are you interested in getting involved at SMU and expanding your global awareness? Join SAGA (Students Acting for Global Awareness), a group of international and Canadian students who organize on- and off-campus events to promote cultural awareness and celebrate the diverse cultures at Saint Mary’s University. 

Why Get Involved? 

As a volunteer, you’ll help increase global awareness by creating social activities that include all students and help Canadian and international students get to know each other, all while learning valuable new skills. 

We need volunteers who: 

  • Enjoy working with a team 
  • Have cross-cultural sensitivity 
  • Want to help others 
  • Have completed at least one academic year at Saint Mary's University 
  • Are willing to attend a volunteer training in September, plus all other mandatory training sessions 

 

How to become a SAGA Volunteer: 

First, see if you meet the requirements: 

  • Willingness to work as a team member 
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity 
  • A strong desire to help others 
  • Must have completed at least one academic year at Saint Mary's University 
  • Must attend the SMU Pack Leader training in August and the SAGA event Planning training in September 
  • Must attend all other mandatory training sessions 

Email saga@smu.ca to apply to become a SAGA Volunteer for 2025-2026. Applications are reviewed in the Spring. 

SMUSA student societies are a great way to engage in campus activities, make new friends, learn new skills, gain leadership experience and expand your network! With over 50 societies, from Accounting to Pride and everything in between, there is something for everybody! 

At Saint Mary’s there are plenty of ways to get active and involved on campus. We have a wide variety of intramural sports, sports clubs, SMUfit programs and varsity athletics 

Career360 is a platform and resource for SMU students that serves as a one-stop shop for career-related activities, events, resources, and opportunities, helping students prepare for their future careers by connecting academic, professional, and experiential learning.
