Wellness in Residence

Residence Life aims to support the overall well-being of students, including mental and physical health and other wellness initiatives. Residence life offers various programs like Res Wellness Team, alcohol and drug usage policy, RainBEAU Committee, and Res Consent Project.

Residence Life promotes Canada’s Guidance on Alcohol and Health (released in January 2023) and Lower Risk Cannabis Guidelines. All the programs and events planned by Residence Life are 100% alcohol free events. Residence also has alcohol-free floors.

Res Wellness Team

The Res Wellness Team is a group of student leaders working toward empowering students to make healthy decisions surrounding alcohol and drug use. Being a part of the Res Wellness team is a great experience to learn the use of tools to live a healthy life. The Res Wellness Team hosts a variety of workshops, self-care events, and informational booths. Watch out for a Res Wellness Team workshop happening in your lounge!

Residence RainBEAU Committee

The Residence RainBEAU focuses on creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where students can safely express, explore, and celebrate their gender and sexual orientation. The Residence RainBEAU Committee has organized events such as drag queen bingo, pride panel, queer prom, skating at the oval, game night, paint night, and more 2SLGBTQ+ safe spaces and theme events.

Res Consent Project

The Res Consent Project is a student-led team that focuses on educating students about sexual consent, sexual health, and sexualized violence. As university students, we believe that a student's experience at SMU should be fun and exciting, but consent must be the main part of that. We encourage students to engage in activities and conversations about consent and sexual violence prevention. They have organized events such as Sex Positivity Bingo Night, Field Trip to Venus Envy, Consent Panel, Self Care Day, Consent Trivia, and many more others.
