Peer Success Coaching Program

The Peer Success Coaching Program provides coaches to each new student for their first year at SMU. Peer Success Coaches are upper-year students who are dedicated to guiding new students through their transition to university life. The coaches offer a student perspective with the students they coach, informing them on adjusting to university life and academics, accessing campus resources, problem-solving and goal-setting, and getting involved on campus.

Meet Your Peer Success Coaches!

Hi there, I'm Yvonne, a psychology major and a fourth-year transfer science student. Halifax is my hometown, where I was born and raised. During my leisure time, I have a passion for exploring fresh hiking trails and embarking on culinary adventures with my friends, discovering new cafes and restaurants. I'm eager and excited to assist you with any academic requirements you may have and provide you with valuable recommendations for everything Halifax has to offer!

Tip for Success: Use the many campus resources available to support your academics including the Writing Centre, Learning Skills & Strategies workshops, and the academic advisors.

Hey there, I'm Sourav, a second-year student at Saint Mary's University. My academic focus is on Finance and Information Systems, and I come all the way from Sylhet, Bangladesh. Football is my ultimate passion, with Chelsea being my favorite team. When I'm not on the field, I enjoy immersing myself in the world of video games, and I proudly represent SMU Esports as an athlete. Exploring various cuisines is another delight of mine, and I have an insatiable appetite for all kinds of delectable foods and sweets!

Tip for Success: Get involved on campus! There is something for everyone - societies, teams and events for diverse interests.

Hi, my name is Temi. I’m a third-year student studying Computer Science. I enjoy listening to music daily. I love to read anything from comics, YA novels, and long book series. I am also the secretary/treasurer of the multicultural committee on residence as well as the treasurer of the SMU African Student Society. As an international student I understand the anxiety that may come with transitioning to university, especially in a new country which is why I am very excited to meet and assist new students throughout their first year here at SMU.

Tip for Success: Talk to your professors in their office hours for extra academic support.

Hi! My name is Kaeandra. I am an international student from Jamaica, I am currently in my third year of Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology. I love reading, singing and hanging out with my friends. I can’t wait to meet you and see how we can learn from each other!

Tip for Success: Surround yourself with motivating individuals who inspire you.

Hi, I'm Michael! I grew up locally, in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. I'm an upper-year transfer student doing my Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology. As a former Engineering student turned Psychology student, I have had a wide variety of academic experiences. I am also a marathoner, cancer survivor, novice gutaristist/ukuleleist and mediocre juggler. I love learning and trying all sorts of new things and love to learn about others. I am really looking forward to meeting and working with you!

Tip for Success: Access on-campus support systems for mental and physical well-being early in your academic journey.

Hey, I'm Stuti, a second-year Psychology student driven by a long-standing fascination with unraveling the motives and underlying psychology behind human behavior. I thrive on digging deeper and understanding the complexities that drive people's actions. Exploring the depths of the human mind and behavior has been my guiding passion throughout my academic journey.

Apart from my studies, I'm also an avid food lover, constantly embarking on culinary adventures to savor diverse flavors from around the world.

Tip for Success: Stay connected with your friends and family, avoiding isolation. Remember, it's okay to ask for help when needed.
