Co-op for Credit

Co-op for Credit - General Information

Co-op for Credit is a new option for BComm students in the Co-op Program to receive credit hours for successfully completed work terms. Each work term has the potential to earn 3 credit hours through a Co-op for Credit course, to a maximum of 9 credit hours total in the degree.

BComm students enrolled in the Co-op Program with a confirmed work term placement will be allowed to register for the credited course (BCOM 2100, 3100, or 4100) in the same term. Successfully completing the course will award 3 credit hours to the degree.

Students will not receive course credit if they do not successfully complete the credit bearing course.

Students can complete a work term without doing the credited course. They would not receive any course credit but still receive the work term notation on their transcript if requirements are met.

The first work term eligible for credit will be Spring/Summer 2027.

Co-op for Credit - Registration and Planning

Whether a student is taking BCOM 2100, BCOM 3100, or BCOM 4100 is based on the number of “credited” work terms a student has completed. If a student has never gotten credit for a work term (i.e. has not already successfully completed BCOM 2100, 3100, 4100), they start at BCOM 2100 even if it’s not their first work term.

Yes. If it’s your first time taking a credit bearing course for co-op, you can register for BCOM 2100 once you have a confirmed work term, starting in Spring 2027 or later.

Credited courses are bound by the standard Withdrawal Refund Schedule.

The maximum credit hours taken with a work term is 6 credit hours including the Co-op for Credit course (BCOM 2100, 3100, 4100). Meaning only one course (3 credit hours) can be taken at the same time as BCOM 2100, 3100, or 4100. This course must not conflict with your work term hours.

BCOM 3100 starting in Fall 2027 and each term onwards.

BCOM 4100 starting in Winter 2028 and each term onwards.

Co-op for Credit FAQ - Tuition and Grades

Students will continue to pay the $500 Co-op fee for the work term, and then the credited course (BCOM 2100, BCOM 3100, and BCOM 4100) will have the same tuition as a regular Commerce course. Additional student fees may apply based on standard fee structure set out by the University

The courses will not be given standard letter grades. If the course is successfully completed, credit will be awarded. If the course is not successfully completed, credit will not be awarded.

If you do not successfully complete the Co-op for Credit course, you will not receive credit for your work term. You can choose to retake the Co-op for Credit course again with your next work term to achieve the credit.

If you complete the requirements for the work term but not the credited course, you will still receive the work term notation on your transcript but will not receive credit.
