Environmental Science Prize

Each year an Environmental Science major or honours student at SMU in their final year of study is awarded the Environmental Science Prize at May Convocation.

If you are in your final year of the Environmental Science (major or honours) at SMU, (graduation dates of September 2023, January 2024, May 2024), you are eligible for one of the $250 Environment Prizes to be awarded in the Spring. Please see the program specific terms of reference below and email environment@smu.ca with any questions.

Gareth Akerman Student Award

Application submission deadline for this named award is May 1st. This award is open to science students going into their third or fourth year. Must be majoring in Biology or Environmental Studies. Students must demonstrate strong academic achievement (minimum GPA 3.3).

The SMU Faculty Union provides every year scholarships to SMU students. 

Preference will be given to applicants who are completing dual degree programs, double majors, and broad or unusual choice of courses. Students should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75. Financial need and/or the receipt of other scholarships may be a determining factor in the final selection process.
