AI Tools and Training
The Saint Mary’s Microsoft licensing agreement gives students access to Microsoft Copilot with enterprise data protection. This gives students access to the tool to:
- Study and Learn Interactively: Break down difficult course concepts, generate custom practice quizzes, create flashcards, and use step-by-step problem-solving prompts to test their understanding.
- Draft and Organize Academic Work: Structure essay outlines, summarize dense PDF readings or research papers, draft project ideas, and organize personal study schedules.
- Analyze and Create Content: Generate images for projects, rewrite or proofread rough draft text, and extract key insights or citations from lengthy documents.
- Protect Academic Data: Work within a secure environment where student queries and uploaded coursework are shielded, keeping chat history private and ensuring institutional data isn't used to train public AI models.

Educators, students, and staff can use Gemini to kickstart lesson planning, brainstorm and research new ideas, and learn with confidence.
For example, students can use it to:
- Deepen your understanding: Get on-demand support, providing explanations of challenging concepts and step-by-step guidance.
- Prep for exams: Make a personalized practice test or quiz based on where you’re struggling with feedback along the way.
- Get feedback on writing: Brainstorm and research ideas, get feedback on your arguments, and generate citations.
Saint Mary’s has joined Amii and Google.org’s national AI program, offering students, faculty, and staff access to a free, three-hour self-paced course covering foundational literacy, ethics, prompting, and output evaluation.
Log in to Brightspace, select Discover, and search AI Workforce Readiness or check New. Choose the appropriate course, enrol, and complete Module 0. The module takes approximately three hours to complete.

The AI Playground at the Arthur L. Irving Entrepreneurship Centre is an interactive space equipped with the latest AI tools and prompts. It’s fully open for use by anyone – students, entrepreneurs, community members – anyone who is curious about AI and wants to get hands-on experience.

Saint Mary’s provides Ask the Husky, a support chatbot available on the Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) technology support portal. It helps with password resets, campus Wi-Fi, printing, and multi-factor authentication.
