Violence Against Women Migrants and Refugees: Analyzing Causes and Effective Policy Response

Funded in Canada by CIHR as one of the international partners in the GBV-MIG Project, a winning project of the Gender-Net Plus Consortium

This research will take an intersectional approach to understand SGBV in the context of migration, analyzing the ways in which discriminations and inequalities based on gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity and age, interact to make certain women more vulnerable to SGBV and less able to access support and services for survivors than others. The research will also focus on understanding how policy makers and service providers can better support migrant and refugee women in preventing SGBV and mitigating its impacts, including negative health and social consequences. 

In Canada the project is a partnership of four academics and four academic institutions: Saint Mary's University, University of Guelph, University of Manitoba, University of New Brunswick.
