Biosketch

Dr. Jean Helms Mills’ research interests are in the areas of critical management studies, gender, critical sensemaking, historiography, intersectionality, and the sociology of knowledge. She has 230+ publications, including books and edited collections, peer reviewed articles, and chapters in edited collections. Jean has presented her research nationally and internationally at conferences and invited talks. In 2014, she was awarded the President’s Award for Research Excellence at Saint Mary’s University. Currently, Jean is co-editor of the journal Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management (QROM) and an associate editor for Gender, Work and Organization and serves on the editorial boards of other scholarly journals. Over the past decade Jean has been directly involved in grants totaling over $12 million, in Canada and Finland. From 2003 to 2014 Jean taught the undergraduate sections of micro-organizational behaviour and now teaches this course online. She taught organizational theory, one of the core PhD courses, from 2005 to 2019. She is supervising three PhD students and has supervised six others to successful completion. Jean is a guest professor at Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics in Finland, an international reader at University of Helsinki Swedish School of Social Sciences, and an adjunct professor at University of Eastern Finland. She continues as a senior visiting research fellow at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki.
