Join us for our first SMU Career Week 2019, from October 28th - November 1st! Over these five days, you will have the opportunity to attend fun interactive sessions, networking opportunities, social events, skill-developing workshops, Career Conference 2019 & more! This week is designed to teach you what's next for your job or future career at any point in your degree!

Resume & Cover Letter Walk-Ins: Applying for a job? Looking for a job? Or do you just need someone to help you articulate your skills and experience? Pop by for Resume & Cover letter walk-ins to get professional help from a Career & Employment Coach. *Note must attend a Resume Workshop prior to gaining access to walk-in hours.

Ace the Interview: Interviewing can be nerve-racking, but it doesn’t need to be with the right tools! Learn from a Career & Employment Coach and local employer the best tips and tricks to ace your next interview! 

Co-operative Education Info Session: Pathways Program: First-Year Sobey School of Business students are invited to attend an information session to learn more about the Co-op Pathways Program. Co-Curricular Record Walk-Ins: Looking for your next or first volunteer opportunity? Look no further! Stop by for CCR walk-in hours to learn about the CCR and the over 50 organizations that we partner with to verify hours on your official transcript.

Indigenous Approaches to Hiring: As a joint offering for Mi’kmaq History Month and Career Week 2019, this Career Fair is designed to both teach employers more about how to attract Indigenous students to their organizations, and provide a warm, approachable environment to learn about those companies and their opportunities, for Indigenous high school and university students.

How To: Resume: The art of resume writing takes time and practice. Learn from Career & Employment Coach the latest trends, tips, and tricks to ensure your resume ends up at the top of the interview pile! Make sure you bring your laptop to get help on the spot! 

Learning Outside of the Box: Come to hear from your peers about their involvement with experiential learning at SMU! This panel discussion will help you learn outside the box in programs like Service Learning, Co-operative Education, Field Schools, Studying Abroad, and Co-Curricular Record.

International Opportunities Fair: Ever wonder where your education could take you? Come to the International Opportunities Fair to see the ways you can experience the world while at SMU! Taking part in the experiences presented at the fair can help you build intercultural competencies, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills, which are sought after by employers in today’s workplace!   

Beginner to Expert: LinkedIn Edition: Whether you have just made your LinkedIn profile or you are just not sure where to start, this is the workshop for you! Bring your laptop to walk through the steps to developing a successful LinkedIn page and how to use it to network and job search.

LinkedIn Photoshoot: Need a headshot for your LinkedIn page? Business card? New job? Look no further! Stop by to get your winning shot. Bring your smiles! 

Employer Trivia Night: In partnership with SMUSA, come get in the spooky spirit and network with employers at the same time! Team up with local employers for IT trivia and compete to win the ultimate prize. It's a spooky good time to network!  

Experiential Learning: Future-Proofing Your Career: Throughout this session, Sarah and Chrisy will take you through an activity and chat about how Experiential Learning  Students to walk away a better knowledge of some of the forms of EL on our campus, how they can get involved, how their experiences can support their career journeys, how they are supported at Saint Mary’s, and how they can use our new software platform to highlight their participation in various forms of EL.

Who You Are Matters: Career Game: Who You Are Matters! is more than just a game. It helps players answer important questions about their careers and life. "What’s next for me? What’s most important to me now? What possibilities would I enjoy?" Using the power of storytelling and story listening Who You Are Matters! sparks meaningful and structured conversations that build a deeper understanding among players.

Mental Health & Your Future Career: Do you want to help people in your career? Come to this session to find out the many career options for working with people and helping to improve mental health, as well as talk about some of the different paths to counselling careers.
