Student Leadership Recognition Award FAQ
Why should I apply for the Student Leadership Recognition Award?
The SLRA can accompany your degree and it can also be documented on your Co-Curricular Record. It will reinforce your demonstrated leadership qualities and skills during your academic career at Saint Mary’s University.
When is the application deadline?
The application will open January 8th 2021. The application deadline is February 16th 2021. We encourage you to submit your application package early.
Where do I submit my application?
Please submit your 2021 SLRA Application online through Career360°; locate the Programs and Awards tab on the left-hand side and submit your application under 'Student Leadership Recognition Award (SLRA) 2021'. The character reference can either be submitted through the Career360° portal, or your supervisor may email the letter directly to CCR@smu.ca. All documents must be submitted in a PDF format.
How do I know that I qualified for the SLRA?
Given that the application criteria have been met, you will be qualified for the award and you will be notified via email. Up to three selected recipients per faculty will be contacted.
If you are qualified to receive the SLRA but have not been chosen as a recipient for that term, we encourage you to reapply the next year and continue with your involvement in leadership and other co-curricular activities.
How many students receive the SLRA each academic semester?
The Student Leadership Recognition Award is very competitive. Up to three students are selected each academic semester from each of the four faculties. In total, up to 12 students are selected from the Faculty of Arts, including students that are enrolled in the Department of Environmental Studies, the Sobey School of Business, the Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research.
Who reviews the applications?
A selection committee called the Student Leadership Recognition Award Adjudication Committee will review the applications.
Who can I bring to the SLRA Ceremony?
You are welcome to bring friends and family to the Ceremony. Please inform the CCR coordinator via email at CCR@smu.ca with the number of guests for us to plan accordingly.
