Objectives

Students can learn and develop in the residence, just as the classroom. Housing & Conference Services and Residence Life are committed to the development of personal growth of residence students through programming in accordance with their interests and developmental needs. Programs that create interaction among residence students on topics related to students' common interests help build acceptance, understanding and respect for each other, which enhance residence life.

Residence staff strive to instill a sense of community, floor spirit and a mature attitude towards residence life within the residents. Residence Assistants are required to provide both social and educational programs for their floor members. Social programming may include such activities as movie nights, bowling, brother/ sister dinners, attending varsity events, intramural sports and holiday parties. The possibilities are endless and the RAs are always looking for new ideas from their floor members.

Educational programming allows the students to develop new skills, clarify their values and improve interpersonal skills. The objective of these educational programs is to increase awareness, provoke discussion and educate residents. The RCs and RAs both have a role in presenting educational programs. If you have a particular area of interest that you would like addressed, please do not hesitate to discuss this topic with your RA, RC or the staff in our offices.
