Sobey School of Business Community Report (2019-2020)
Date Published: February 8, 2021
The school's new strategic plan, Elevating Impact, guides our work in the areas of teaching and learning, research and scholarship, community engagement, and in everything we do. Innovation and entrepreneurship, global and intercultural perspectives, and social and ethical responsibility remain top of mind.
The past year was full of new and unexpected challenges. It has compelled us to adopt new ways of thinking, teaching, supporting, and learning. Through our collective work, we responded to the pandemic by bringing our expertise to our many stakeholders by offering webinars, new programs, research initiatives, and support for the local business community.
Our 2019-20 Community Report demonstrate our commitment to all of our stakeholders. Inside, you will see many examples of how the school is supported in its efforts and how the work we do impacts the community we are a part of. You will read about:
- The $2 million gift the school received from Dr. Robert Steele, DComm’18, which will allow the Master of Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MTEI) program to expand and launch new initiatives over the next decade.
- Research conducted by our faculty such as the work of Dr. Tiffany Vu on “Transitioning to Good: When is Striving to be an Ethical Business as Good as Being One?”
(For more information about our research and researchers, see our last Annual Research Bulletin).
- Our support and collaboration with the business community through the creation of the Sobey School of Business Community Revitalization & Prosperity Network.
I am extremely proud of how we came together as a community to respond to the challenges posed by the pandemic, and continued to forge ahead in the pursuit of our longer term objectives. The past year may have forced us to do things differently; however, by remaining strategic and relying on our plan to guide us, we found many ways to advance, discover, and connect.
