Dean's Conference Awards

The Dean of Arts' Conference Award assists undergraduate students with travel expenses associated with presenting a paper or poster at a academic conferences.

Maximum funding support available through this award program is $400 and is meant to supplement funding from other sources (e.g. through an assistantship with a faculty member, other research grand funds, personal contributions). This award is intended to modestly offset the cost of travel, lodging, registration fees.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicant must be presenting a poster or paper at the conference
  • Applicant must be registered as a full-time student in the Faculty of Arts at the time of travel

Award Selection Criteria

The Dean of Arts awards conference funding based on the following criteria:

  • The proposed budget (reliability, reasonableness)
  • Impact of the conference participation on the applicant's program and on the profile of Saint Mary's University

Application Deadlines

  • February 27 (every year)
  • October 15 (every year)

How to Apply

To be eligible for a Dean's Conference Award, students must submit the following materials to the Dean of Arts Office, McNally Main 218:

  • A completed Advanced Travel Form
  • Letter from student giving rationale for the funding request
  • Budget of estimated expenses
  • Signature of the Department Chairperson or Program Coordinator in the student's Major
  • Letter of acceptance from conference organizers and/or a copy of the conference program indicating student's participation
  • Abstract of the paper (if applicable)
