How do I change my...

Submit a “Change of Address” form to the Service Centre by fax, mail or in person. For contact information, click here.

Send an email to service.centre@smu.ca, from an email address on file for you in Self Service Banner, with the following:

  • Full name
  • Student number (A#)
  • Date of Birth
  • Complete address and phone number.

Mailing addresses can be updated by you through Self Service Banner.

Remember you must also have a permanent address.

Not Applicable.

Addresses are provided by the Residence Department.

Excludes Family Housing apartments.

What does each address type mean?

All students are required to maintain a permanent address and therefore cannot update or delete their permanent address in Self Service Banner.

International students must have a permanent address from their home country in Self Service plus a local mailing address.

Students who live away from their permanent address can provide a mailing address provided they maintain a permanent address. 

Mailing addresses can be updated online in Self Service.

Addresses provided by the Residence Department for students living in Residence for the academic year.

Excludes Family Housing apartments.

Addresses are automatically inactivated on the system on April 30 of each year.

A permanent address must also be provided.

When will my address be deactivated by Saint Mary’s University?

  • If mail is returned or a specific end date is entered
 

What happens if I do not have an address on file with Saint Mary’s University?

  • A registration hold will be placed on your account until a permanent address is provided.

Where will my mail be sent?

  • The Service Centre generally sends mail using the following address sequence:

    • Residence; if not provided then,

    • Mailing; if not provided then,

    • Permanent address

  • Under certain circumstances, such as the mailing of winter statements in December, the permanent address is the first choice.  

Update My Residency Status

If you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, and being charged an international differential fee , please complete the following to have your record updated:

  • Complete a "Change of Residency Status" request form at the Service Centre in McNally Main 108.
  • Bring one of the following supporting documents:
    • Passport
    • Birth Certificate
    • Permanent Resident Card
    • Permanent Resident document form from Citizenship and Immigration Canada
 

Change My Name

If you have legally changed your name, please complete the following to have your records updated at Saint Mary's University.

  • Complete a "Student Name Change Request" form at the Service Centre in McNally Main 108.
  • Include copies of legal documentation for the name change
  • To revert to your maiden name, please attach a copy of birth certificate or valid passport (with maiden name).
