Interests

I am a human geographer with broad research interests in historical/cultural geography and environmental history. My primary interests lie in the following areas: (1) historical and contemporary conceptions of the intersections between culture, nature and place (with particular focus on tourist destinations); (2) critical historical geographies of colonialism and statecraft; and (3) critical historical analyses of geographical science (especially in relation to scientific exploration and cartography). My research to date has primarily focused on the scientific exploration of western Canada in the late 19th century, but I am currently pursuing research focusing on environmental history and contemporary concepts of nature related to parks in Halifax.
