History
The 2nd Halifax Meeting on Computational Astrophysics...the 18th Kingston Meeting is a continuation of the "Kingston meetings on Theoretical Astrophysics" started in 1981 at Queen’s University by Dick Henriksen. Since this time the "Kingston meeting on Theoretical Astrophysics" is held approximately every other year at various institutions across Canada and focuses on current interests in astrophysics.
The first meeting of the "Kingston meeting" series to be held in Halifax at Saint Mary's University (the 7th meeting) was in 1987 hosted by George Mitchell.
The next Kingston meeting to be held in Halifax, the 12th Kingston meeting of the series (1996) was hosted by David Clarke. This was the first meeting in Canada to be dedictated to computational astrophysics . This highlighted the explosive growth of computer simulations and astrophysics. The strong international participation at this meeting reflected the global interest in computational astrophysics at the close of the twentieth century.
