First time customers to Nova Scotia Power will require a reference check. You will be required to provide one of the following: credit check (Social Insurance # required),

a letter of reference from previous utility, a letter of guarantee, or a security deposit if none of the above are given. You will also have to choose between Bi-Monthly

billing and Monthly Fixed amount billing. Bi- Monthly means you will be billed every two months for the energy you have actually used. With Monthly Fixed Amount billing,

NS Power will estimate your energy usage and your bill will be the same amount each month.

Setting Up Your Heat There are a number of different companies that can provide oil to heat your apartment. Look in the Yellow Pages under "Heating" for different numbers.

Here is the standard procedure: Fill out an application - this can be done over the phone or a salesperson may come to your apartment. Once an account is opened in your

name you will be charged for actual usage with a statement each month (there is usually a minimum purchase of 100 gallons). The salesperson should be able to give you an estimate of your heating costs.
