Looking for Accommodations
There are many places to look for accommodations within the HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality). Each one may cater to a variety of people, however, the Off-Campus Housing Office is focused on the needs of reasonable housing for students. When using these alternate means of Apartment Hunting, keep in mind the group they may be targeting.
Saint Mary's University Off-Campus Housing Office
The Off-Campus Housing Office is committed to educating and informing students about living in Halifax, and surrounding areas. You can view our listing three ways: Our online searchable database - updated with every new listing; our bulletin board - updated weekly, or by dropping into the office and requesting a paper copy of our listings. When we receive a new listing, it is immediately added to both our online and in-office database!

Many property owners will advertise their apartments by putting signs in the window. Take a walk around the area you would like to live to see if anything is available.
The Home Renter's Guide is a free biweekly publication that advertises different apartment buildings and houses for rent in the Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford areas. It is available in various grocery and convenience stores or you can pick up a copy at our office.
Property Management Companies/Wait Lists
Some property owners will keep waiting lists for their apartment buildings. They may ask for a security deposit while others will do it free of charge. Be sure to inspect the apartment and understand the conditions of the wait list before putting your name down - especially if a security depost is necessary. You can ask the rental office or a superintendent of the building if they maintain a wait list.
Apartment Complexes: There are a number of property owners in the HRM, who may own more than one building. If you contact them directly, they will sometimes know their vacancy rates a few months ahead:
