New Book Tells Ongoing Story

Feminist Research on the Shaping of Gender and Place

Dr. Tastoglou's new book is published by Canadian Scholars' Press/Women's Press, Toronto

A new book co-edited by Dr. Evangelia Tastoglou, Professor and Chair of Saint Mary’s Department of Sociology and Criminology tells the ongoing story of immigration to Canada by exploring the role of immigrant women in the labour force, the family and the broader community in Atlantic Canada.

Immigrant Women in Atlantic Canada: Challenges, Negotiations, Re-constructions is comprised of 11 essays written from a critical feminist perspective by a collection of scholars. The book offers diverse insights into connections between gender and immigration and original research into a range of issues faced by Atlantic Canada’s women immigrants. An essay co-authored by Saint Mary’s sociologist, Madine VanderPlaat explores the parent-teen tensions and conflicts within immigrant families living in the Halifax Regional Municipality.
