Come Visit China

Saint Mary’s University is preparing to celebrate one of the most colourful nations in the world and you’re invited to take part in the festivities.

In honour of their newly opened foundation, the Confucius Institute at Saint Mary’s University will host China Week from November 22-24.

The Institute has invited members of Xiamen University in China and many others to showcase the artwork, music and craft of the Chinese culture through exhibitions, lectures, performances and workshops.

You’ll have the chance to master the “Supreme Ultimate Force” through a Tai-Chi workshop available during the week.  The ancient skill is one of the most popular forms of martial arts in China.  For those with a more creative eye, there will also be a workshop available on calligraphy.  The beautiful style of Chinese art has been described by many as hearing music with your eyes.

If you enjoy the true sounds of music, professional musicians, dancers and artists from Xiamen University will showcase their talents on Thursday November 24th in the McNally Theatre Auditorium.  The performance will tap into the deepest roots of the Chinese culture through various forms of movement, rhythm and artwork.
