Dr. Jeremy Lundholm, the driving force behind green roof research at Saint Mary’s, will travel to Vancouver next week to accept a Research Award of Excellence from Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, the North American Green Roof Industry Association.
The award recognizes Dr. Lundholm’s extensive green roof research publications and his engagement with industry and community. A review of his work was published in the association’s quarterly magazine last year and an update of his recent efforts is scheduled for an upcoming edition.
"It's a recognition that the work we are doing here at Saint Mary's is valuable," he said. "It underscores the fact that my lab is doing research that is unique in a world context, not just a national context."
The award follows on the heels of a financial vote of confidence this summer by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council which awarded him $170,000 over five years to expand the size and scope of his research.
The Award presentation will be made at Cities Alive, the 8th annual Green Roof and Wall Conference. Dr. Lundhom is also a featured speaker at the conference and identified as one for the best minds in the field of living architecture.
As a plant ecologist, Dr. Lundholm’s studies coexistence mechanisms in rocky ecosystems, as well as plant community composition and diversity effects on green roof performance.
