Campus Art Tour:
The Building of a Permanent Art Gallery Collection
10:00am to 11:30am
Friday, 24 September 2010
Starting in the Atrium
You’ve visited the Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery and seen the exhibitions, but did you know that the Gallery has a permanent collection of nearly 2,000 individual works, primarily by contemporary Canadian artists?
We won’t be able to show you them all, but please join Director/Curator Robin Metcalfe and Collections Coordinator, Harry Hamm for a tour of our Permanent Collection during Culture Day. Many works from the Permanent Collection are displayed throughout the university campus and feature artists such as Rachel Beach, Nelly Beveridge Gray, David Diviney, Gerald Ferguson, John Greer, Mathew Reichertz, Jane Shaw Law and Camille Zakharia.
Throughout the tour, Robin Metcalfe will talk about how a gallery collects, preserves and displays the artwork in its permanent collection and reveal a few interesting stories about our collection and the artists who have contributed to it.
Please meet us near the foot of the stairs in the Atrium. Refreshments will be served in the Gallery after the tour.
