Alistair MacLeod: Once in a Lifetime

Alistair MacLeod will present the Cyril Byrne Memorial Lecture March 12 at 7:30 PM in th McNally Theatre Auditorium.


Long before his celebrated novel No Great Mischief won the 2001 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and was later named “The Greatest Book in the History of Atlantic Canada,” Alistair MacLeod was recognized as one of the finest short story writers in the world.

Now, for the first time in his career, MacLeod will read the full text of his 1976 masterpiece, The Closing
Down of Summer. He will then discuss the story with Dr. Ken MacKinnon, co-founder of the Atlantic Canada Studies Program at Saint Mary’s.

Music will be provided by award-winning violinist, Gillian Boucher. Please join us for this historic evening. Admission is free and a reception hosted by the Dean of Arts will follow the event. All are welcome. Poster

The Cyril Byrne Memorial Lecture celebrates the spirit and vision of Dr. Byrne, as well as his life-long commitment to interdisciplinary studies in the Faculty of Arts at Saint Mary’s University.
