Media Release For Immediate Release November 4, 2009 SMU researchers take world stage at occupational health conference If you want to know about stress in the workplace, just ask researchers at Saint Mary’s. Professors and graduate students from the CN Centre for Occupational Health Safety at Saint Mary’s will make several presentations this week at the International Conference on Occupational Stress and Health. The conference, taking place Nov. 5 to 8 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is the world’s largest international event in the field of occupational health psychology. Researchers from the CN Centre will also present a pre-conference workshop at the event. According to CN Centre Director Dr. Kevin Kelloway, conference organizers specifically asked for SMU researchers to offer the workshop because they wanted a workshop for practitioners based on rigorous academic research. “All of this activity contributes to our [the CN Centre and Saint Mary’s] standing as a centre of research excellence in occupational health psychology,” said Dr. Kelloway, who is also the Canada Research Chair In Occupational Health Psychology. Saint Mary’s faculty members attending and presenting papers at the conference include Victor Catano, Arla Day, Catherine Loughlin, and Bernadette Gatien. Other faculty members Lori Francis, Mark Fleming, Steven Smith co-authored papers that will be presented at the conference, and CN Centre graduate students Bally Thun, Sonya Stevens, Natasha Scott, Mike Teed and Jason Slaunwhite also have papers being presented.
