Media Release For Immediate Release May 14, 2009 Sobey MBA Society fundraiser helps youth dream big
Members of the Sobey MBA Society at Saint Mary’s University were on the button recently when they raised $2,465 for Phoenix Youth Programs. Phoenix Youth Programs is a beacon of hope for at-risk and homeless youth. Recognized regionally, nationally and internationally for its innovative work with youth, the program offers a place to be safe, supported and encouraged to dream big and succeed. As a way to show their support for program, members of the Sobey MBA Society this year organized the first annual Sobey MBA Curl for Phoenix. The event was held March 20 at the Halifax Curling Club. More than 60 curlers participated in the event, including students, university alumni and local business people. Organizers of the event hoped to raise $1,500, but were thrilled to see their pledges top $2,400. And the fundraising effort was certainly well placed. Thanks in part to the money raised by the Sobey MBA Curl for Phoenix, the Phoenix Youth Programs this year met and exceeded their annual fundraising goal for the first time in five years. The Sobey MBA Curl for Phoenix was sponsored Black Magik, JMS Accountant Staffing Limited, KPMG, McInnes Cooper, Pinky’s, Opa, Robertson Surrette, Scotiabank, the Saint Mary’s Business Development Centre and the Sobey MBA Office at Saint Mary’s University. “We would also like to thank all the participants who took part in the event and made it a great success,” said event organizer Candice Johnston. “The success realized this year has set the stage nicely for a bigger and better event next year.”
