Media Release For Immediate Release April 17, 2009 Mickey MacDonald inducted into the Turning Points Hall of Leadership
Local entrepreneur Mickey MacDonald was inducted into the Turning Points Hall of Leadership last night (April 16) at Saint Mary’s University. Created in 2007 by the Saint Mary’s University Alumni Association, the annual Turning Points Hall of Leadership Award dinner honours individuals who exemplify outstanding commitment in leadership to Saint Mary’s University, to business, to our community, and in life. Mr. MacDonald’s business interests are diversified across many industries, including automotive leasing, retail, food and beverage, fitness, commercial and residential custom tile sales and residential land development. He has won numerous business and personal awards, including the 2008 Nova Scotia Humanitarian of the Year, 2005 Nova Scotia Philanthropist of the Year, 2004 Newfoundland Philanthropist of the Year, Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Halifax Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year and was among the Top 50 CEO’s in Atlantic Canada five years in a row. In 2005, he was presented with an Honourary Doctor of Commerce by Saint Mary's University. Previous inductees into the Turning Points Hall of Leadership include David Sobey (Chairman Emeritus of Sobeys Inc.), Paul Sobey (President and Chief Executive Officer of Empire Company Limited), and the late Robert (Bob) Shaw (former President, Chairman and Director of The Shaw Group Limited). Turning Points in Leadership is a unique annual event where some of Canada’s top business leaders gather at Saint Mary’s University to celebrate excellence in leadership, and to engage with some of the best and brightest graduating students from Saint Mary’s. The host and keynote speaker at this year’s dinner was Claude Mongeau, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of CN. The event was attended by 216 local and national business leaders, along with top graduating students from Saint Mary’s University, and more than $35,000 was raised to support student bursaries at Saint Mary’s.
