Media Release For Immediate Release January 8, 2009 Saint Mary’s alumna named Minister of Education Saint Mary’s is the Alma Mater of Nova Scotia’s new Minister of Education. Judy Streatch, who graduated from Saint Mary’s with a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and English in 1989, was named Minister of Education yesterday (January 7) by Premier Rodney MacDonald. In addition to her degree from Saint Mary’s, Streatch also has a teaching certificate from Nova Scotia Teachers College in Truro, and a a diploma in French from L’Université du Québec à Trois Riviéres. She has more than 15 years experience as an educator. She was a high school French immersion teacher at Forest Heights Community School, and was previously employed with the Halifax Regional School Board. Politically, she was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election on June 21, 2005 and reelected in June 2006. She has served as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation, Minister responsible for the Liquor Control Act, Minister responsible for the Advisory Council on the Status of Women, and Minister responsible for the Heritage Property Act. In addition to her new responsibilities as Minister of Education, Streatch will continue her duties as Minister of Communications Nova Scotia.
