Media Release For Immediate Release November 7, 2008 Huskies honour 37 Academic All-Canadians
Saint Mary’s University recognized the academic excellence of its athletes Nov. 7 at a presentation ceremony held between basketball games at The Tower. The ceremony honoured the 37 student-athletes from Saint Mary’s who excelled in both academics and athletics last year to be named CIS Academic All-Canadians. To receive recognition as an Academic All-Canadian, a student-athlete must compete in a varsity sport while maintaining an “A” average in their academic course load. Saint Mary’s has a long and proud tradition of athletic success and is recognized nationally and internationally for its achievement in sport. Clearly, with 37 CIS Academic All-Canadians on last year’s rosters, that proud tradition of excellence extends to the classroom as well. The list of CIS Academic All-Canadians included: Cross Country/Track & Field, Christine Carey, Shane Cunningham, Christina Etter; Women’s Field Hockey, Lauren Hutton, Kaitlyn Tsuruda, Kaitlin Whitehouse, Men’s Hockey, Scott Brophy, Brandon McBride, Chris Morrison, Marc-André Rancourt, Dan Rudisuela, Brandon Verge; Men’s Soccer, Keith MacMillan, Michael Sun; Women’s Basketball, Barbara Capes, Kelsey Daley, Julia Finlay, Stephanie Wakeham; Women’s Soccer, Leanna deKoe, Ashley Donald, Katie Nizio, Heidi Pentz; Women’s Hockey, Kori Cheverie, Zoe Launcelott, Kayla Oakley; Women’s Rugby, Natasha Jordan, Rebecca Kennedy, Adrienne MacDonald, Erin MacLeod, Fiona McNutt, Kristen Parker, Stephanie Pratt, Julie Rouette; Women’s Volleyball, Katelyn Cross, Christina MacRae; Football, Ted Abraham and Tim St. Pierre.
