Media Release For Immediate Release October 17, 2008 Threat of human rights commissions to be debated at Saint Mary’s Do Human Rights Commissions threaten civil liberties? That question will be debated Oct. 30 at Saint Mary’s University. The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Public Affairs (CCEPA) is presenting the debate and has gathered some strong opinions and expertise on both sides of the question. The debate will feature Krista Daley, director and CEO, Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission; Dan Leger, director of news content, Halifax Chronicle Herald; Pearl Eliadis, a human rights lawyer from Montreal; and Mark Mercer, a professor of philosophy from Saint Mary's University. The debate will be moderated by Kevin Kindred, lawyer and chair of the Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project. The debate will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the Scotiabank Theatre Auditorium in the Sobey Building at Saint Mary's University. Admission is free.
