Left to right: Saint Mary’s University students and alumni Ashleigh Bellefontaine, Sarah d’Apollonia, Ally Read, Courtney MacGray and Katie Little wearing their gold medals after arriving home from the BMO National Soccer Championships in Newfoundland.

Saint Mary’s University students and alumni were well represented on the gold winning Halifax City Salty’s Senior Women’s soccer team this Thanksgiving at the BMO National Championships in St. John’s Newfoundland.

The Salty’s, representing Nova Scotia, were undefeated in the tournament and won the national championship on Monday by defeating the North London Galaxy from Ontario.

Santamarians on the team included Ashleigh Bellefontaine, a fourth-year International Development student who also plays keeper for the Saint Mary's Huskies; Katie Little, a former Huskie and fourth-year Arts student; Sarah d’Apollonia, a fourth-year Science student from University of Ottawa attending Saint Mary’s as a visiting student this term; and former Huskies players and Saint Mary’s University Alumni Ally Read, (BComm’07) and Courtney MacGray, (BA’07) – all played key roles in securing the win over the Ontario team.
