Media Release For Immediate Release September 30, 2008 Residents to join Saint Mary’s students to trashform neighbourhood The neighbours around Saint Mary’s University will join with students Sunday morning to ‘trashform’ the neighbourhood. Sunday morning from 10 a.m. until noon, area residents and students will join forces to clean-up the grounds of The Oaks, the mansion at 5920 Gorsebrook Avenue at the end of Robie Street. According to Sarah Morris, the Assistant Director of Student Services at Saint Mary’s, a neighbour contacted her earlier this week to ask if residents who live in the area around the university could participate in the university’s Trashformers program. The Trashformers program is an annual student initiative that is part of the university’s Pride in Your Shared Neighourhood program. Every weekend from early September until mid-October, students from the university’s residences hit area streets to tidy the neighbourhood. They pick up litter, straighten mailboxes and remove cigarette butts along Inglis Street, Gorsebrook Avenue, Tower Road and Robie Street. This Sunday, with the help of people from the neighbourhood, they will focus their efforts on The Oaks, the former Stanfield mansion. The mansion and its extensive grounds is now the home of the university’s International Development Studies program.
