Media Release For Immediate Release March 19, 2008 PALS Play Hockey too: SMU Fundraiser expected to be a real hat trick It’s time to lace up and hit the ice for a good cause. On Thursday, March 27, the PALS program at Saint Mary’s University will be hosting a fundraiser which will entail a game between the Huskies varsity hockey team and SMU faculty, as well as guests. The game begins at 6:30 PM at the SMU Alumni Arena. A silent auction will be held throughout the evening. Those who attend the auction will have the chance to bid on all sorts of neat items, including signed NHL jerseys. As well, spectators and play table hockey with their children. “This fundraiser is going to be a lot of fun, there’s no doubt about it,” says Dr. Stephen Schneider, a professor of Sociology and Criminology who spearheaded the PALS program two years ago. “The money raised from this big event will ensure that PALS program continues to grow.” PALS offers assistance to children who live in disadvantaged environments. The program was formed at SMU in 2006. PALS stands for the following: Positive role models and mentors; Academic tutoring; Leisure and physical activity; and Social and life skills development. Tickets for this fundraiser are available by calling 420-5872. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors.
