SMU students shine on the world stage

The University community is celebrating the news this morning that three students from Saint Mary’s won major awards at this year’s Canadian International Model United Nations Conference that was held in Ottawa, ON this past weekend.

Brian Leblanc won Best Delegate for his work in the General Assembly Third Committee as a representative of Chad and subsequently Israel.

Rebecca Winn won Outstanding Delegate for her work in the General Assembly Special Session on Terrorism as a representative of Cameroon.

And, Daniel Melvin won Verbal Honorable Mention for his work in the General Assembly Special Session on Terrorism as a representative of Chad and subsequently Iran.

“With over 400 delegates in attendance on the weekend, our delegation was among the most successful,” says Dr. Marc Doucet, Political Science Department.

He added, “I am confident that this success will carry forward to our next Model UN conference in New York, April 22 to 27.”

At the Model United Nations Conference in New York, Saint Mary’s will represent Chad, a developing nation in central Africa.
