Saint Mary’s students engineering to win a national title

A group of engineering students are gearing up to compete at the 2008 Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) at the University of Waterloo, which attracts top engineering students from across the country.

John Anderson, Joel McCully, and Andrey Kostylev will represent Saint Mary’s University at the big event that will be held on March 7 and 8.

Through six individual competitions, students who take part in the CEC are challenged to demonstrate their skills in communication, leadership, teamwork and design. All competitors must prepare a written report detailing their solution and make a presentation or demonstration before a panel of technical experts from industry and academia.

The trio from Saint Mary’s received the green light to compete at this year’s CEC after placing second at last weekend’s Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC), an event that was held in Moncton, NB.

A number of other engineering students also competed at this year’s AEC. They included: Kai, Seltner, Jeff Mitchell, Alwym Gomez and Laura Weeden, Wallace Barkhouse, Walter Weiss, Eric Gilroy, Kyle Bateman, John Anderson, Joel McCully, and Andrey Kostylev. These students demonstrated to judges and other teams from across Atlantic Canada that Saint Mary’s continues to attract top notch students in engineering.
