Chamber lauds Sobey student
Sure Aly Rajab took a risk in business three years ago.
But it’s something he won’t ever regret, that’s for sure.
His business, the Canadian Language Learning College (CLLS), was named the Small Business of the Year by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
The first year student in the Executive Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) program at the Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary’s University was all smiles as he crossed the stage to receive the coveted award at last evening’s Halifax Chamber of Commerce Awards Ceremony. The event, which attracted almost 300 people, was held at the World Trade and Convention Centre (WTCC) in downtown Halifax.
He bought CLLC, a bankrupt business, and recovered it in less than one year. The revenue increased from $300,000 to $1.4 million in the first 12 months. Since then, CLLC has grown into a successful, profitable business.
CLLC has attracted more than 300 students from 56 different countries to Halifax, and his business has generated almost $1 million for the province’s economy.
