Oui! We speak French at SMU too

Sophie Pineau, a student at Oxford Junior High, is the prize winner of a draw organized by the Saint Mary’s Science Faculty and the Department of Chemistry during Exploration Day.

This event was organized by the Canadian Parents for French, who are devoted to the promotion of French as a second language.

The prize is presented to Pineau by Claire Cohalan, who is a SMU students enrolled in the Astronomy and Physics Department. Cohalan teamed up with Dr. Marc Lamoureux, Chemistry Department, to represent the Faculty of Science and the Department of Chemistry at the Exploration Day at the Dartmouth Sportsplex.

The event was attended by well over 400 students from Grade 7 to 9, from local Junior High to schools as far as from the Northumberland straight area. Other exhibitors included RCMP, Canadian Cost Guard, Université Ste-Anne, Air Canada, and the Public Service Commission of Canada, to mane only a handful.
