CS Huskies are the Sixth Best in the Northeast of Canada and the USA!

A team of computing science students from Saint Mary’s placed sixth at this past weekend’s Northeast-North America Programming Contest.

A total of 75 teams from Canada and the United States competed in the annual competition that was held at the Rochester Institute of Technology, NY, USA.

Jason Hines, Harry McCleave and Chris Adams — who call themselves the Computing Science (CS) Huskies — beat some big schools like McGill, and placed just behind some well known schools such as Harvard and MIT.

The trio also came in second overall out of 18 teams from Eastern Canada.

This is the 9th year in a row that Saint Mary's has sent a team of computing science students to the regional championships (Four first place finishes 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003; Four second place finishes: 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006; One third place finish: 1998).

The team's coach is Dr. Pawan Lingras, who is a professor of Mathematics and Computing Science.

"Our CS Huskies showed everyone this past weekend that we are the best in the East," he says.

"We had a strong team who worked hard to get to the regional championships and everyone at SMU is proud of their stellar performance," he says.
