Media Release For Immediate Release October 10, 2006 Bruce Oland Named to the Order of Canada Bruce Oland, who holds an Honorary Doctor of Commerce from Saint Mary’s (’00), was named to the Order of Canada (OC) this past Friday, October 6. He is the former president of Oland and Son Ltd., and is someone who has a lifetime of achievement in business, service in the Canadian navy and armed forces and philanthropic work.
In 1970, Commodore Oland was appointed the Naval Reserve Advisor to the Commander, Maritime Command. Mr. Oland has been very active in a number of charitable and community activities such as the Nova Scotia Association for Community Living, the Halifax School for the Blind and the Canadian Association for the Mentally Retarded. He is always seen on campus attending various events and Huskies varsity sports games. Saint Mary's University is known for its community outreach projects, both in Canada and around the world.
