Sobey School of Business Prof wins President's Award from IPMA-Canada

Dr. Terry Wagar is the 2006 recipient of the President's Award from the International Personnel Management Association of Canada (IPMA-Canada).

Dr. Terry Wagar, a professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management in the Sobey School of Business at SMU, has been presented with the President's Award from the International Personnel Management Association of Canada (IPMA-Canada).

This is the highest award presented to an individual who has made an
outstanding contribution to the practice of human resource management in Canada. This award could be compared to the granting of an honorary
doctoral degree by a university.

The award recognizes Dr. Wagar's professional background, his
accomplishments and contributions made to the human resources
community. The award also recognizes his significant contributions to
the education of people in an academic setting as well as the corporate
environment. According to IPMA-Canada, his efforts have greatly enhanced
the understanding and appreciation of effective human resource
management practices and the implications of those practices for
organizations and individuals.

In a congratulatory letter to Dr. Wagar, the National Past President and Chairperson for IPMA-Canada Awards Committee, Ray Deck, writes, "You are recognized as a great ambassador for academia and as a positive role model for management professionals as evidenced by your continued commitment to teaching excellence. Your valuable expertise, approachability, support and infectious enthusiasm for your  subject areas have made a substantial positive impact on the careers of many human resource professionals."

He adds, "I commend your dedication and contributions to the human resources field through your research, studies, writing, teaching and mentoring."

Dr. Wagar was recently presented with the President's Award at a special luncheon hosted in Halifax by IPMA-Canada.
