Funding and Awards for SMU Students Going Abroad

Participating in an international exchange program is much easier when you’re financially prepared. As a Saint Mary’s student thinking of studying abroad on exchange, field study course or departmental program, be sure to take time out to explore your funding options before you leave.


On-Campus Funding Sources

  • VPAR International Mobility Awards
    Amount: $350-$1800
    Eligibility: All students, any duration, any program for academic credit.

  • Michael Brown International Mobility Awards
    Amount: $750
    This award will be given annually to a recipient of the VPAR International Mobility Award. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the Sobey School of Business who are from the Atlantic Canada Region. (All eligible applicants for the VPAR Award are considered. No separate application is necessary.) For further information, please e-mail the International Activities Office at mobility.international@smu.ca.
  • SMUSA Individual Student Funding

  • International Development Initiative Fund (IDIF)

  • Financial Need-Based Bursaries
    Questions regarding scholarships, awards, and bursaries should be directed to the Financial Aid & Awards Office at financial.aid@smu.ca.
