The Confucius Institute at Saint Mary's University

The Confucius Institute at Saint Mary's University is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of Chinese language, culture, commerce, and studies.  It is a joint venture between the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban), Xiamen University, and Saint Mary's University.

The agreement establishing the Institute was signed on October 25, 2010 at a ceremony at Province House.  The Institute builds upon the strengths of the long-established Asian Studies Programme in the Faculty of Arts and reflects long-standing linkages between Saint Mary's and Xiamen Universities.

Opening in the fall of 2011, the Confucius Institute at Saint Mary's will serve not only the students and faculty of Saint Mary's University but also the broader community within the Halifax Regional Municipality and eventually the entirety of the province of Nova Scotia.

Saint Mary's Confucius Institute is the eighth in Canada and can be found in the recently renovated McNally Building (MM205).  There are now more than 300 Confucius Institutes worldwide, the first having been established in 2004.
