Apply by Mail
If you would rather seal your application in an envelope than send it to us through cyberspace, feel free to send it to us by mail. Similarly, if you have already visited the Apply Online page and have discovered that we need a little more information from you, please download the appropriate application form below. Here are some steps to help you prepare your application:
Step 1: Check the Admissions Requirements for your degree program, to make sure that you are eligible to apply.
Step 2: Complete the application form as completely and accurately as possible. Include payment of the $40 application fee and supporting documentation.
Step 3: If you want to live on campus, complete the additional Residence application form, and include the application fee of CAD$25.00
Step 4: Mail everything to us at the Admissions Office, Saint Mary's University, 923 Robie St, Halifax NS B3H 3C3. Canada
Step 5: If your first language is not English, and you need to provide the results of an English proficiency test, make arrangements for the test results to be sent directly to the Admissions Office.
Step 6: Allow 1-2 weeks for the Admissions Office to process your application. If you would like to check on your application status, please contact the Admissions Office at 902.420.5415 or admission.status@smu.ca
Certificate/ Diploma Student: You would like to complete a certificate or diploma program at Saint Mary’s University. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee.
Reactivation: You have already attended Saint Mary's but took some time off. You would like to reapply to continue your studies and you have been out of Saint Mary's for less than four (4) years. To reactivate your status, you are not able to apply online, but can complete the application form. No Admission Application Fee is required.
Readmission: You have already attended Saint Mary’s but took some time off. You would like to reapply to continue your studies and you have been out of Saint Mary's for more than four (4) years. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee.
High School Applicant: You are currently enrolled in a high school program within or outside of Canada or have graduated from high school within the past four years. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee.
Transfer Student: You have attended a post-secondary institution within or outside of Canada, such as a college, university, or CEGEP program, since completing high school, even if you are just enrolled in one course. It is mandatory that you include such information on your application form. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee.
Visiting Student: You are currently enrolled in a degree/ diploma at another university/ college and wish to take undergraduate courses at Saint Mary’s. Your supporting documents should include a letter of permission from your home institution enabling you to take courses at Saint Mary's University. Please include a $40 (CAD) Admission Application Fee.
Upgrading Student: You already hold a degree or professional certificate and would like to enroll in undergraduate courses to upgrade your qualifications. Please include a $40 (CAD) Admission Application Fee
Second Undergraduate Degree: You have already completed one undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree and would like to apply for another, you will be considered as a Second Undergraduate Degree student. You MAY be eligible to receive up to two years of credit toward your second degree program. Please include a $40 (CAD) Admission Application Fee.
Mature Student: You have not completed high school, and have been out of school for at least five years. You are 22 years of age or older. To be considered as a Mature Student, you must not have attended a post-secondary institution after high school. If you have, you will be considered as a Transfer Student. Open Studies Student: You would like to enroll in up to 30 credit hours of courses at Saint Mary’s and do not plan to complete a degree program. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee. If you require assistance with your application, please contact conted@smu.ca or 902-420-5492.
Auditing Student: You would like to enroll in a course to follow the course material without earning credit. Please include a $40(CAD) Admissions Application Fee.
