Life At SMU
It never takes long for students to feel at home.
The size, community, services, and location of Saint Mary's are ideally combined to offer you a learning environment that feels welcoming, friendly, accommodating, and warm. Picture yourself meeting new friends, making discoveries, working hard, and exploring Halifax, the beautiful city by the sea. And that's all in your first few weeks.
Nevertheless, university life can be a big adjustment, of course. From Welcome Week events to the comprehensive LEAP program, to societies and clubs, Saint Mary's offers a helping hand when you need it most.
With more than 50 campus societies, there's something for everyone - from subject-based groups like Biology, Accounting, and Classics, to those organized around politics, social issues, research, volunteering, and other shared interests. View SMUSA’s full list of campus societies.
Of course, the other community that could add a lot of value to your Saint Mary's experience is athletics. The Saint Mary's Huskies is one of the most successful university athletics programs in Eastern Canada. We offer 9 varsity teams to get involved with:
- Field hockey
- Track and field
Intramurals are another fun way to stay fit, plus the new Homburg Centre for Health and Wellness is home to SMUFit, our fitness and recreation society.
