My research interests revolve around information processes and the role they play in shaping our environment:
I. Nonlinear systems analysis and modeling, space-time patterns of environmental change, natural hazards and their human impact; main application areas:
- volcanic seismicity;
- climate variability.
II. Information processes involved in environmental systems and human-environment relations:
- information processes and semiotics in geoscience, environmental science, and complexity theory;
- the dynamics of information, including analog-to-digital conversion and virtualization;
- implications of information processes for education and research, including geographical information science.
