Halifax can be reached by air, bus, ferry, and car. 

Travel By Air

Most airlines offer flights directly into the Halifax International Airport (YHZ). The airport is located 30 minutes from The Westin Nova Scotian, and travel from the airport is available by bus, rental car, shuttle, and taxi. 

Bus - Metro X (Wheelchair accessible) costs $3.50 and provides transportation from the Halifax International Airport to Albemarle St (behind Scotia Square Mall). From here the Westin Nova Scotian is a 20 minute walk down Barrington St., or you may choose to take a taxi from the taxi stand on Duke St. Other buses are available to take from Barrington St. (opposite side of Scotia Square Mall) to the Westin (Route: 9 to Point Pleasant).

Rental Car - Car rentals are available within the Halifax International Airport for various costs* from six different companies (Alamo/National, Avis, Budget, Dollar/Thrifty, Enterprise, and Hertz). It is best to book with these companies in advance to ensure that there will be a vehicle available to you. 

*There may be an additional cost for parking within the city.

Shuttle - The Halifax Airport Shuttle is available for a one-way price of $22 or round-trip price of $40 (taxes included). You must pre-book

with the company to ensure the shuttle will be able to accomodate you.

Taxi - The taxi company recommended by The Halifax International Airport is Yellow Cab. You can contact them by calling 902-420-0000. 


Travel by Bus

Halifax can be reached by bus through by using the folling companies: Maritime Bus, Ambassatours, and Atlantic Tours. These buses will all take you directly to the VIA Rail Station, located next to The Westin Nova Scotian. 


Travel by Ferry

There are four options to take a ferry into Nova Scotia:

Portland, Maine to Yarmouth

Argentia / Port Aux Basques, Newfoundland to Sydney

Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby

Wood Islands, PEI to Caribou 

All of these options will require you to drive the remainder of the way into the city of Halifax (Driving time ranging from 2-3 hours).

Alternative Accommodations:

Saint Mary's University Residences (includes breakfast, wifi, parking, and a pass to the Homburg Centerfor Health & Wellness). The university is located 20 minutes (walking), or 5 minutes (bus or car) from the Westin Nova Scotian.
