Signs of Students in Distress

  • Poor academic performance and preparation
  • Dependency on faculty member
  • Irritability
  • Repeated requests for special consideration
  • Unusual or changed pattern of interaction
  • Avoiding or dominating discussions
  • Excessive anxiety
  • Disruptive behaviour and/or mood swings
  • Inappropriate response to situations
  • Persistent worrying about unrealistic events
  • Social isolation
  • Inability to concentrate, confusion, indecisiveness
  • Disheveled appearance, change in appearance
  • Feelings of helplessness or hopelessness
  • References to suicide
  • Homicidal threats
