In a battle of the top two teams in the AUS women's basketball conference, the Duinker sisters of Acadia out dueled the one-two punch of Justine Colley and Susanne Canvin of Saint Mary's for a 83-78 victory on Wednesday night at the Tower.
Emma Duinker had 24 points and Abby Duinker added 22 to lead the CIS #7 ranked Axewomen to victory over the Huskies. Kristy Moore added 19 points as Acadia (11-1) won their eleventh straight game and took over sole possession of first place.
Colley had 24 points and 13 rebounds while fifth year senior Canvin tallied 21 points to lead the Huskies (10-4). The Huskies out rebounded the Axewomen 50-36 but committed 20 costly turnovers compared to just 8 for Acadia.
The third quarter proved pivotal as Acadia out scored the Huskies 29-22 to take a seven point lead into the fourth. The game was tied 36-36 at half time.
The teams will meet again next Wednesday night in Wolfville. (webcast on ssncanada).
